Even though this book would not have been out of place in the Queen Mothers' drawing room, this small but concise pocket book has much to offer the modern day drinker.Robert guides the reader through the contents of a 1920's Gentleman's Sideboard, explaining the basic equipment, and essential drinks necessary for the novice barman.The book is crammed full of recipes and tips, including the methods and the different varieties of both well known cocktails, and many unusual drinks besides.An interesting feature of most of Robert's cocktails is the addition of a splash of Absinthe, or the odd raw egg yolk. One recipe that stands out from the rest is Toast Water, a delightful drink made from Toast, Boiling Water and an egg yolk. A dash of absinthe can be added for extra "stimulation".A very unusual book, delightful and entertaining.
