A Certain Scientific Railgun Volume 2 contains chapters 8 to 13, some bonus 4 panel comics and a special preview of "Amazing Agent Jennifer".It is rated Teen due to violence, mild nudity and bad language.It reads right to left.This is the second manga volume, if you are new to Railgun, start from volume 1 (Certain Scientific Railgun Vol 1, A)Judgement continue searching for the "Level Upper". The more information they find about it, the more dangerous it seems.Saten Ruiko, whose power is level 0, is able to get her hands on a Level Upper but just as she was about to tell the others, Shirai Kuroko says that anyone found with a Level Upper will be taken into protective custody. So she keeps it to herself.Later on, Saten finds herself in trouble when she is approached by a gang, luckily Kuroko passes by and helps out. But that makes Saten feel useless so as a last resort, she uses the Level Upper with some of her friends. Unknown to her is the fact that everyone who uses the Level Upper eventually collapses and goes into a coma-like state.And Kiyama Harumi doesn't seem all that trustworthy as what was first thought.I really enjoyed this book, not as much as the first volume but it was still a good read. Kamijou Touma (from A Certain Magical Index) makes a few appearances in this volume. I love how Misaka Mikoto behaves around him.On the back of the book it says "With great power comes... loads of fan service." That is a misleading quote. This isn't a fan service kind of book. If I didn't know the series and saw this on a shelf, I wouldn't have bought it because of that. Luckily, I love Railgun. It has bits of underwear showing but the plot is fantastic!Apart from that, the quality of the book is excellent. The translations are perfect and keeps Japanese words like "Onee-sama" and "Kouhai" in.Like the previous volume, it is slightly smaller height-wise than other manga. That's a bit annoying.But the end of this volume is a cliffhanger so I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next one!

As Mikoto Misaka and Shirai continue to investigate the increase in psychic crime and its possible connection to the mysterious Level Upper they meet the eccentric scientist Kiyama Harumi who specialises in Cerebral Physiology who is studying those who have used fallen into a coma after being exposed to Level Upper. Meanwhile Uiharu's friend Saten has got a hold of Level Upper and her own sense of inadequacy at being a Level 0 leads her and her friends to fall victim to its effects.This is another very entertaining volume of `A Certain Scientific Railgun' and one that sees the Level Upper arc advance very nicely. The plot is nicely done and the volume has a nice mixture of comedy and action. A highlight of the volume is Shirai's fight with some street punks that is very entertaining.`A Certain Scientific Railgun' is a very entertaining series and this is another good instalment that is worth a full five stars. I also hope that the sister series `A Certain Magical Index' is also released in English soon.

I do like the premise for this series,namely Chi type power.You usually connect this type of ability with monks or highly trained martial artists.There is a special all girls school that trains it's pupils to focus and enhance this gift.However,having this 'Gift' also makes you a target for outsiders to pit themselves against you to test how powerful you might be.It also leads to those who don't have this ability to try out treatments to gain a similar power.This 'artificial' power is forbidden as it causes the practitioner to deteriorate into a demon if they over use it,so for the untrained,practice doesn't make perfect.There's lots of excellent fight scenes and this volume has a really good,long,technical battle.Good conclusion too.If you check the front cover,there's a panel with a girl writhing on her bed with a rag doll.It sooo makes you want to read the book!Actually,it's just a brilliant cover and a fabulous book!lots of humour and great artwork.
